President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva called on the elderly to vote for their children and underscored the importance of the youth in mobilizing for the election.
Oh, to vote for their children’s future.
Lula reminds me of Biden in so many ways
He’s not popular. He doesn’t do much to actually improve the lives of Brazilians. He just returned to, and maintained, the old status quo
If he weren’t running against a family of fascists, he’d have no chance, especially considering he’s 80. Sick of the octogenarians running for office
Now because of him, Flavio may become president. Yes, a whole lot of people are to blame, but him, like Biden, us most to blame. Greedy old men wanting to cling onto power as long as possible
Come on, look at our recent history. Look at what happened to Dilma. Look at our congress and senate composition. There’s not much room to make many improvements. We’re stuck fighting against right-wing domination and total control by the US, like in Argentina. The far right has already won this election. They have the majority in our government. We are just trying to elect Lula to limit their power. this also happened in the past elections. No one recognizes the work from the ones who avoid bad things from happening, and people are being very unfair to lula. take for example the recent policy of using petrobras to hold the fuel prices internally. Many places around us are facing crisis and prices are skyrocketing due to the war, but brazil is almost untouched. And even though the congress is against him, he pushed laws to reduce work hours, prohibit online gambling, reduce taxes on the poorer, remove taxes from medications, and others. Many people who are bashing him today only had access to education through his politics of expanding federal institutes, many people have access to healthcare through the expansion of “UPAs”, many people don’t have to pay rent because they had access to “minha casa, minha vida”, etc and lots of etc. People take full advangate of his policies, but will bash him nonetheless.
Lula is no Biden, and this comparison is really unfair, if not uninformed
Yes, the US is interfering in the election. Probably worse than Russia interfered in the US election
End of the day though, Lula isn’t very well liked. He has a lot of baggage. He’s running against a right-winger with no real platform beyond reactionary politics
Biden pushed a lot of those same policies, ny the way. It was just ineffective becajse he handed the election to Trump, who immediately reversed them all
It’s a sad state of affair, having to vote Lula again to prevent Bolsonaro from take office.
The left is doomed if they only have Lula as a viable option
As a non-Brazilian curious about Brazilian politics, what are your complaints about Lula? What has the average person voting for Bolsonaro?
You are right except that he is popular I’d say, his charisma is undeniable. Still, lots of people hate voting for him and I wish the left invested into basically any other candidate
People still think running a “I’m not Trump” campaign is a winning strategy despite it failing every time somebody tries it. “I’m not as bad as the other guy” is not inspirational.
It’s incredibly uninspiring. A downright awful strategy for any candidate
It was a winning strategy for Biden in 2020 though. Really shows you how bad of a job Trump did in his first term, and how short voter memories are that 4 uears is all it took to forget
