Experts looking at UK, US and Dutch data found ‘significant increases’ in early onset cases of seven cancers, prompting warnings about lifestyle choices
The most frustrating part of this is if you are under a certain age (at least in the US) its very difficult to get preventative screening. If you are under 40, you have to FIGHT to get a mammogram and usually have a lump you can feel and do an additional appointment before they will scan you. Also good luck getting a colonoscopy before you hit 50, if you are under 40 you have to be actively bleeding out of your ass to get a doc to schedule one.
EDIT: guys you can tell me all day how easy your personal healthcare experiences have been and it doesn’t change the fact that many many people do not have the same easy time getting preventive testing done as you and many times they use your age as the reason. This is relevant because the article is talking about cancer rates raising among YOUNG people. Not the old farts that are over 50.
Under current guidance you should be getting colonoscopies starting at age 45. It was reduced about 10 years ago due to the increased prevalence of colon cancer in younger adults.
Got a (insurance covered) colonoscopy/endoscopy at 35 without much issue due to family history. No bleeding or any symptoms other than IBS. The docs were pushing me to get it since 30. So YMMV
Nice, that is great to hear. I had to lie to the nurse to get scheduled for a mammogram at 42 years old and it ended up being cancer, so definitely YMMV
The recommended age to start getting a mammogram is 40 and you are unlikely to have to right to get an appointment for one. I even had it automatically pop up in health portals as something I needed to schedule after my I turned 40.

Again, this is not a universal experience.
Its strange that you just replied saying “you are unlikely to blah blah” to a comment where I said I had to LIE in order to get it scheduled because they were not going to let me have one until I was 50. They were going to let me go on my way for the next 8 years with just a normal breast exam that found nothing. Then they found cancer which was only at stage 1 because I pushed to have my cancer screening done at 42 and not 50.
So nice for you that you don’t have to fight for your healthcare, but some do and its a PITA.
Yeah, it’s really easy to get a colonoscopy if you have any relevant symptoms. I had my first at 28(iirc) due to bowel habit changes unrelated to diet. I had others in my 30s. Never had any pushback from doctors or insurance.
Cancer screening is just about the only thing health insurance companies don’t push back much against because it saves thema lot of money in the long run.
