Either that, or you start telling the joke, then some asshole starts talking louder over you and finishes the joke. Stealing the credit.

This exact thing hasn’t happened but what happens a lot more is when I’m talking and someone else talks over me and continues the conversation.

Usually I just continue talking at the same time and ruin both our sentences out of spite. Like when you trigger two Bethesda NPC’s dialogue and it overlaps to make a confusing mess

Or when you tell the joke and no one hears you. Then the next person repeats the joke and gets all the laughs

Stop crying and just tell the joke anyways. Better to lose a good friend than to lose a good (but aged) nub.

I recently stood near with two distinguished professors of architecture who were talking about a colleague obsessed with replacing concrete with a material derived from a fungus.

They were about to move on with their conversation.

I rudely interrupted, apologised for my brain, and explained their colleague had a point, because concrete structures were less roomy than fungus ones…

      … because there’s not mushroom.

They regarded me as one may look at a developmentally challenged toddler.

      No regrets here though.

Just set up the joke one step earlier. Look for any new topics of conversation that can link you back to those balloons you’re collecting of gold. Its called doing a call-back, slick. chews his toothpick clentchily… staringly
