Secretary of State Marco Rubio has waived a restriction on $320 million in military aid to Egypt that had been previously withheld over human rights concerns, citing Egypt’s help in dealing with Iran since the conflict began earlier this year.

Just as a reminder, this is basically a stimulus/bailout for the weapons industrial complex.

Egypt takes that money and cycles it back into the US economy by buying tanks munitions and other weapons.

Arm manufacturers lobby the bajeezes for this stuff. I think a lot of stuff Egypt is being forced to buy is incredibly outdated technology and won’t be helpful in modern combat (though don’t quote me on that). I’m only saying this because this program has been going on for decades and I remember reading a story a while back of how they were buying old tech.

I’m sorry, but we are instead arming and financing Israel and Saudi Arabia, both of which coincidentally have universal healthcare.

This sounds like we’re trying to be nice, but instead we are fighting in Syria and Iran and Israel (I count Israel as the USA for practicality’s sake, let’s not be pedantic), and we are using this as pressure to get Egypt to do… something.

I’m not sure if we want them to join in the fight or if it’s a bribe to keep them out. Either way, USA makes bank.

I am against arming Egypt, Iran, Palestine, Saudi Arabia and any other Islamic states, and also against arming Israel

… BUT I do know we are the world’s arms dealer, making more military hardware and guns than China, Russia, and the top five or six other producers combined, so this is making “us” (weapons makers and suppliers and international banking with US dollar) a bloody fortune.
