Seems like Hanson is doing everything she can to throw all the fence sitting votes away.
For reference-
Liberal Party (traditionally centre-right, currently Right Wing) have all but imploded since last election, with most of the far right people moving over to Nationals or One Nation (Hanson’s party - both parties are far right)
Labor (traditionally centre-left, currently centre-right, in power but acting like they’re in opposition) have done exactly nothing this term but approve tax cuts for the ultra rich have been bleeding voters since they refuse to act on anything unless it’s a pay rise for themselves or extra perks/tax cuts/services for the 1%
This coming election was unfortunately her election to win - both majors are in the dumps (especially the libs) and she could quite easily have taken preferences from both sides.
I’m glad she’s making such a mess of it.
I am genuinely worried about the upcoming elections here. Pauline is one angle, but we will probably have a coalition government with the Liberal party (they are our politically right party, Labor is our left).
The policies in my city that are winning public sentiment include:
- Increasing the speed on a consistently gridlocked highway from 80 to 100km despite this demonstrably decreasing traffic flow (but I want to drive my Ute fast!!)
- Increasing regular rubbish collection to weekly, from fortnightly, despite this being a local council issue. Why? Because my bins are stinky!!!
- Increasing police jobs, despite there already being 1500 vacancies in my state. Too much crime!!
- Racism.
- Housing prices (my property value must go up, not down!!!) in serious - they are campaigning on making housing less affordable.
To make things worse, the Labor party currently in power recently changed leaders on account of a corruption allegation. The new leader is going and capitulating on a lot of things to try and stop the sway to Liberal/ one nation. Such as cutting the budget for the most influential and forward planning infrastructure development I’ve witnessed in my lifetime. An outer loop train line to connect all the radial lines. Should it have been done 30 years ago? Does that mean we shouldn’t do it now? For fucks sake. I’m pissed.

Agreed though, it’s an issue for local government, unless the Federal Gov. is going to take over garbage collection.

There’s a lot going on. The base and the groups are anti semitic so are farming the current anti Israel/Zionism sentiment, yet the party itself is Zionist supporting.
Hanson is accessible. She goes to shit like the Goomeri pumpkin festival and the Ekka. So people see her and it just reinforces the incorrectly held view she is one of them. Labor, state and federal, are unaccessible, heavily guarded and governed people who put a shield of spokespeople in front of them. People don’t give a shit about attendance as a Senator, they care about accessibility. The vibe they’re being heard.
Labor can’t respond on the spot, because its caucus system doesn’t allow it. Its caucus represents Labor, not the people. Captains calls aren’t really liked. Hanson can say whatever shit she likes.
You’ve noted the corruption issue. Another problem of Labor’s as a major party…corruption, lobbying, jobs for mates, internal appointments, secrecy. So Labor has no solid ground to fight Hanson corruption on, because they do it themselves. Whether or not we expect better from them.
Then we have all the nanny state, health based rules and policies such as the vape and social network which enough people just fucking hate, despite whatever good. It matters and they’ll vote on it.
I think Labor are in huge trouble, both in Victoria and nationally.
Weekly trash pickup is considered excessive? Our bins are bad enough after a week. After 2 you could probably smell them from the next street over.
I dunno I have an 80L bin and it’s got one bag of rubbish per week as a couple. Understand families have more waste, that’s why 120L+ bins exist. I can’t personally say I’ve ever been offended by a smelly bin. Waste smells. Make less waste, or give your bin a better seal. We could comfortably move our waste frequency to monthly if we had a bigger bin tbh.
It’s more that the state has no say in bin collection, that is a local council task. Every council has different bin collection cycles and even types of bins, as well as different waste management facilities etc. balanced against local requirements. Doubling bin pickup means either twice as many trucks + staff, or 24 hour collections.
For us it’s the cat litter. Ours are 120L too, and we rarely fill it full.

I wouldn’t necessarily say they are the most primitive. Certainly there are other contenders that are just as primitive with the same non-achievements? I bet some south american and african tribes would give australian aboriginals a run for the first spot.
