Coincidentally, many people who want a holy war are morons on oxy. But that’s neither here nor there!
Almost every religion you have ever heard of was probably based on or is still a religion that practices the ritual sacrifice/murder of a living thing for some god. (Aka violence for holy purposes)
All over the world religions have abounded which demand Lambs or birds or even the hearts of one’s fellow humans to worship/sate/bribe gods.
Violence is not objectively “unholy” because “holiness” itself is subjective to the culture in which the acts are practiced.
It’s holy because the reasons for it are dictated in their holy book and thus getting killed in said war grants you a place in paradise.
Holy war just means it’s done in the name of some holy believe, often a god.
Holy does not require grace or peace. That comes about from monotheists smashing many gods together, some of grace, some of peace, some of war and attempting to recogncile it as one being who ends up with conflicting motivations.
It’s taken most of my life to understand how those people can reconcile the so called spiritual nature of religion with violence.
Language is a funny thing. Rational people tend to take words on their literal value before being told to look for another meaning, but some people don’t think that way. Their ideology isn’t so much strongly held but strongly ingrained.
I think conservative rhetoric tends to be more about tribalism than anything else. They don’t see the contradiction even if the literal words they’re saying contradict other beliefs they hold very strongly.
tl;dr - So long as it’s their team calling for war, it’s justified. If someone they care about is hurt, they’re the victim. Doesn’t matter what anyone else says, to them words are just other people making noises at them. It’s all about signaling and tribalism.
What is grace? Religious books are full of gods directly ordering total annihilation of other kingdoms and civilizations to the least breathing being and interfering in such events as to give advantage to the genocidal armies they are commanding.
War is quite easily sold. One may even believe that people enjoy mass violence given that they have a permission to commit
