    £500/month car payments, £80/month phone, £125/month TV/streaming, £250/month takeaways.

Is this really just a treat? You could buy a house with that kind of money. I know real people with monthly expenses like that and justify it as a treat for themselves. Other than takeaways they are all used as endless subscriptions, when the car or phone is at the end of its payment period they get another one.

Years ago when the cost of living became a popular talking point, it started to be something the middle class noticed. I remember seeing people on the news crying that they couldn’t afford food - while earning 4x my income at the time.

Middle class, don’t even know how to be poor properly.

Not so much angry, but fed up of listening to people cry about not being able to afford food while spending more on luxuries then my entire income.

At least that was the case a few years ago. I earn more now. Then again I do remember a guy who was pushing 6 figures complaining about stuff like that once in an audience. The audience quickly turned once they heard how much he was on. So perhaps it could still happen now even though I am on £29k.
