Wouldn’t this key just fail anytime you share the photo due to format changes, downsampling, cropping, etc?
Yeah, from my POV that’s a feature. If a process modifies your photo, its no longer your photo and shouldn’t be able to masquerade as your photo.
Obv, integrating GPG w OpenCamera is just an example. GPG could be integrated w social media apps so that after you select “share,” and the image is processed, that modified image is signed before upload.
Yep, whatever signing method needs to survive manual editing as well. Or at least photo editing and layout/collaging.

One way to make it work is for the edited photo to carry a copy of the original photo inside - so you have the original photo signed by the photographer, then the edited version signed by the editor, then the book compilation signed by the book maker, etc. If the editor does a terrible job - with the right software - someone can just go back to the photographer’s original image, make their own edit, modify the book including the edited notations, etc.
