Member states of the UN Convention to Combat Desertification met in Ulaanbaatar to find solutions and funds for reversing the process of land degradation that already affects 40% of soil on the planet. It ended in the 1.3 billion dollar pledge for Green projects.

As much as 40% of land on the planet is turning into a desert and 3.2 billion people already suffer the consequences. UN Convention to Combat Desertification met for another COP conference in the capital of Mongolia, Ulaanbaatar. Mongolia itself is severely hit by desertification with 77% of its territory affected and Gobi desert spreading. From the beginning the organisers appealed to the delegations of the 197 signatories of the convention to go beyond declarations and find tangible solutions for the programs to make land green.

    Wow. 1.3 billion.

    For perspective, my government just pledged 4.7 billion dollars for new railcars. My country represents 0.5% of the population of Earth.

    Even if countries keep their pledge, 1.3B is a joke.

        Yeah, I am happy about the railcars and I think investing in rail is a legitimate way to fight climate change. I just take issue with the size of the Green Investment Pledge. All countries need to do more - especially rich ones like Canada.
