My interpretation is that the topic is politics. Whether it’s specifgical political individuals, groups or candidates is beside the point. Saying “I don’t talk about politics bro” is actually a political stance.
That sounds clever, but in fact, while obviously atheism is not a religion, I think that discussing atheism counts as discussing religious beliefs, yes.
