    I don’t get this part

Nuuk concluded that ordering the containers removed “would not be proportionate,” leaving the government to choose between licensing drilling in an area that may fall under wetlands protection or refusing and risking handing Trump an opening to press his claim harder.

Why would it not be proportionate, given that they lied about having a license?

It’s like Karoline Leavitt saying she quits her job because she ‘wants to spend more time with her family’. Everyone knows it’s a bullshit reason, but it’s just plausible enough to keep anyone from actually calling bullshit. I take it they just don’t want to kick the hornet’s nest.

I think Greenland should send law enforcement and have them demonstrate as much restraint and accountability as ICE agents do.

Time to send in the police, confiscate the equipment, and take the workers away for questioning.

Greenland is self governing when it comes to internal matters. Unless Trump sends in actual soldiers there’s not much that Denmark can do without violating Greenland’s self governance. Greenland just needs to send the police and stop them.

Finally. We finally get to hear the “we can’t do anything” reasons from the European liberals that those of us on the left have been critizing internally in America with American liberals. It’s amazing how similar these arguments for inaction are. “Follow the rules while they violate them” is not going to stop American fascism.

It’s funny because the European liberals really loved to grandstand on their superior democracy against America and the failures of American liberalism in the face of fascism. But, really, the European liberals have significantly more in common with American liberals than they’d like to admit. They will roll over and ask for “just one more Injunction” and ultimately do nothing to stop it either.

When a foreign actor is violating the territory of a member of the European Union and your response is essentially “not our problem”. You’re opening the door for the same creeping fascism that the American liberals have allowed.

Focus on what you CAN do. If you are just listing of reasons for why nothing can be done you are no different than the useless American democrat party.

You have to stop this at the first step. And Greenland isn’t the one blocking Europe from doing something. America is doing something illegal. Europe either organizes to stop this “small” expansion now. Or you wait and wait until it becomes too big to ignore and too big to actually do anything against.

Pretty much every EU member is “self-governing”. And unless I misread and that’s a Greenland-based company this is an international matter.

Greenland is not a separate EU member though. It is part of the kingdom of Denmark, but was given self government by Denmark to make them stick around after the colonisation and not go independent.

It goes even further, Greenland is not an EU member, even though Denmark is a member. Greenland has some association with the EU as a member of the EU’s overseas countries and territories.

This is the US at fault, but um, Greenland, what are you guys doing there? Anything? This isn’t wartime invasion, nor economic warfare, but something in between. Trespassing and theft if any regular person was doing it.

          *Propaganda.

They are filming propaganda. And if Greenland does what they should and physically seize the equipment and/or physically disabled it and restrict access to the location enforced through arrest Dr. Phil will try and twist that video as pretext for the USA to annex Greenland.

Yes, but usually spineless local politicians don’t want to cause an international incident, what is exactly what USA is counting on so they’ll salami slice more and more until there is a big blow-up with violence and things deteriorate from there.

        Hopefully Greenland is less spineless.

It’s less about Greenland having a spine and it’s Allie’s in Europe not having a spine. If European nations would stand beside Greenland and offer support and troops America would likely back off. But Greenland should be expected to fight this on their own? I don’t think so.

Europe not making a massive deal over this will allow the creep of American empire to control and occupy Europe more than it already does. This is a massive L for Europe and not just Greenland.

it’s also very very easy for greenland to let them invest all the money they want there and then just fly a drone up the tailpipe, over and over and over. It takes years to set this up and one night to burn it back down again.

[Hitler took the Rhineland which wasn’t his. Putin took Crimea which wasn’t his](Renee Nicole Good and Alex Jeffrey Pretti ) . They were emboldened by the lack of equal force. Dear orange leader allowed his ICE goons to kill Renee Nicole Good and Alex Jeffrey Pretti and there was no push-back so he upped his game. It only stops when there is equal or greater force used.
