Right of land is because many had to leave their home country to find a better future, as they had none. It’s why we Europeans (mostly the poor, criminals, outcasts, etc.) left to the Americas and other colonies. When nations were built by these people, it’s kinda understandable it’s made for these people too. It’s why there still are loads of people moving to the US to get their kids born there, to ensure a better future for them (imagine having a life even worse then a life in the US). But it’s weird that it’s just the being born part that counts. Like, if your American parents are on holiday abroad when you’re born, you don’t get citizenship? What if it’s a country that doesn’t have right of land rules, you don’t get any citizenship anywhere? In this case right of blood does apply so you still get us citizenship. But when my Dutch parents were on holiday in the US when I was born, I could get an American citizenship next to a Dutch one? So weird. Right of land is like colonialism (as it originated from it).
On the other hand, why is there any logic to right of blood? If you were born and raised in Belgium while your parents are from Botswana and Bulgaria, why shouldn’t you get Belgian citizenship, but should get a Botswana and Bulgarian citizenship while you have no affiliation other than your parent’s origin with those countries? Right of blood is like aristocracy and apartheid (as it originates from it).
I believe the whole citizenship thing is just bullshit. Just let people live where they want. Fuck borders. But I’m just an anarchist.
