Maybe that’s because I’m running out of friends to play multiplayer games with and have been forced to play singleplayer games.

The marketing cycle keeps telling me “Buy New Stuff!” when I already have a bunch of perfectly playable stuff on my hard drive. And yeah, I don’t have 4-12 hours to really drown myself in a long form game where the plot builds and the scenery is immersive and the music really takes hold of me.

But, Idk man, maybe that’s okay? Maybe I really don’t need to spend that much of my life in front of a screen. Walking my dog, playing with my son, making dinner with my wife, doing some housecleaning so I’m not living in a sty. Maybe these are better uses of my time than just gaming all day.

I miss the days when my friends would play shooters with me for hours.

I definitely miss spending time with my friends. But when we do hang out, I find we spend more time making small talk and making each other drinks and watching our kids bounce off one another. And the time becomes nice because it’s restful, not because it’s this high strung life-or-death gun battle.
