How do these systems prevent backfeeding into the grid during a power outage? I know with generators, they’re required to have an isolation switch so that someone working on the powerlines doesn’t get electrocuted, and I’m sure rooftop systems have something similar installed.
Solar panels of course don’t generate anywhere near as much power as a generator, but when you get a whole neighborhood full of these systems connected, surely there’s a risk.
Saw a video where the electricity grid has a “frequency” - if the power supply is turned off, the inverter detects this frequency change and shuts off.
It’s also why if you touch the plug it won’t shock you.
This also means that in the event of a power cut, the solar will also cut out.
