It’s not a topic people here care to discuss much, wary of feeding Russian propaganda.
But the latest National Police Service report recorded more than 600 assaults on recruitment officers to date and warned that the aggression has become “increasingly threatening”.
The first big alert came in April when several recruiters were stabbed, one fatally. Then this month in Lviv, some 200 protesters surrounded officers attempting to detain a suspected draft dodger and smashed and overturned their car.
The riot made headlines as President Volodymyr Zelensky condemned violence against serving soldiers.
More likely, it’s the same self-preservation instinct their Russian peers are experiencing when recruiters come calling on the east side of the front line.
Ukrainians and Russians had far more in common than in opposition. It took decades of depravation and tens of thousands of hours of warmongering propaganda to splinter them apart. Now they’re being feasted on by the oligarchs and their war machines as the territory is depopulated for the next generation of settler colonialists.
Awfully cynical, but seemingly accurate. The wealthy create the wars to profit and make it everyone else’s problem. The people honestly don’t want to fight the equivalent of their brothers and sisters. The Russia government is ridiculously coercive though and their propaganda has been effective enough to convince people so far. It really is bizarre.
