It just dawned on me that Netflix is behaving exactly like Google: https://killedbygoogle.com/. Many of their shows do not survive past season one, so people no longer follow new shows for fear that they will be canceled. Similarly, many people do not trust new Google services for fear that they will be canceled.

    Jellyfin lets you selfhost & stream video & audio content. From the role of a consumer of media. ie, you physically have the bits on a disk somewhere you own, but still want streaming/sharing/etc.

    For a creator, the more relevant thing is Ghost , a self-hosted Patreon/Substack alternative. Again, so you can’t be booted off Someone Else’s Platform.

      I know, I use jellyfin. My point was that it was irrelevant to this discussion given that we’re talking about Netflix as a content creator, not a media server.
