WOW Ultimate fit for this community, I never understood why other gay men or women even bothered to attempt to align themselves with Republicans who hate our guts in most cases. It’s so cringe, there is a reason why Stonewall happened and probably needs to happen again. This time making sure to fight for everyone in the LGBTQIA+ community, as conservatism is always the path towards fascism, it cannot be allowed to win.

    • It’s because they value personal comfort and the accumulation of clout and wealth over the lives of, well, anyone. It’s one of the reasons that corporate pride is so insidious- it defangs and co-opts a truly liberatory movement into just another flavor of exploitative capitalism. The queer folks (even the cis gay men who are attempting to distance themselves from the queer community) who attach themselves to systems of power believe that they can take advantage of those systems to their own benefit without realizing or believing that they’ll never really be part of that club and that they’re next on the chopping block. The especially frustrating thing is that this is a pattern that has repeated itself throughout history… sigh.

Huh, yeah that sounds quite accurate to me. Personally, while I don’t feel like I belong anywhere as a gay man…I don’t feel drawn to the idea of building both clout or wealth, as that represents a path towards corruption of the self. Only in rare cases does it allow good people to speak as a positive voice with weight that matters…

Despite seeing the pattern in history, I still can’t fully come to grips with the idea of willingly walking the path of empowering those who would love to see you executed or dead. Temporary comfort won’t save you from those with insidious intentions, just delay the inevitable when the power of those considered truly part of the in-group is entrenched. Man, humans are frustratingly weird!

I instead want people to be able to live their lives, freely without having to hide who they are (unless they are a bigot, well, they can buzz off). Tearing away artificial social constructs and constraints will lead to better lives for everyone, but I don’t see that happening until I am long dead.
