Did they pick the direction closest to north on earth?
There are two standards to choose from: Either you go by the direction it’s rotating, or you use the pole that’s on the same side of the ecliptic as earth’s north. In the case of Mars they both agree.
So I guess Uranus would be kinda hard to decide?
