That response is so apt. Its not even really about AI its just that happens to be the latest tool with which to milk more out of me while offering less.

This week some online hosting thing, that I pay for, emailed me to say I need to provide photo od and a selfie. When I created a support ticket to ask why, I received a generated slop response that didnt answer my question. Ive started the long laborious process to switch to another provider of course.

A while back my GP asked me if they could use an AI thing to listen to our conversation. I said that its not my preference but im not going to outright refuse. He seemed surprised and asked why, so I explained that it wasnt for my benefit and that I wanted to be listened to by a human who knew me. He disabled it that time but now they just use it and dont ask anymore.

Today I called them and they have a new gen AI voice receptionist. You can ask to speak to a human but, for fuck sake.

I am going to find another drs clinic just on principle but fuck me im just sick of it.

Every day, every way, shittier service, more inhumane, less human.

I already came to Linux in November just to get away from unwanted programs that you cannot remove from taking up system resources. I cannot be happier with my snappy Linux Mint installation. This is the longest that I have run Linux since 2008 when I ran Ubuntu for a few months.

To be fair its seeping into linux aswell. I’m considering swapping distros because slop images started appearing as the default wallpapers.

Who keeps a default wallpaper? Change that shit, I still steal mine from /wg/ and edit it in GIMP like the good old days. Besides, an AI wallpaper is just slightly different than AI spyware taking your PC’s resources to tattle back to the mothership lmao.

        But also which distro?

Yeah but like, where do I even start, you know? Does a copy of the Linux OS come with a T-shirt? Recommendations on massive social media posts? Maybe a purchase of a big advertisement highway sign in the middle of your city?

Because as we all know, the most important thing about using Linux is how you’re going to tell anyone that listens that you use Linux. It’s just intimidating on how to go down that path, you know?

Tshirt sold separately, you can recommend all the social media posts you want, and yeah go for it nobody will stop you from renting adspace.

“Why do linux people talk about it all the time” well why do microsoft people talk about it all the time? Only difference is they’re complaining and we’re telling them how much better they could have it if they put a modicum of effort to improve their own lives instead of just begging those exploiting them to stop since that has not been working well so far.

Oh, yeah, you’re completely right about Windows people usually complaining and Linux users usually praising! The issue with Linux is it’s not really needed for the average user and sort of a pain in the ass to learn how to do basic tasks. Using Linux just for bragging rights when you can do the same thing easier on another OS is just lame in my opinion.

I may change over one day but I would have to start using computers in my personal time more or it would be if I needed to change over for work. I work in IT. It’s not my passion, it’s a job. The last thing I want to do is hop on my computer in my free time.

I’m in no way shitting in Linux or their users, I know it has it’s place in the IT world and it’s awesome for remaining open source all these years!

Nah, MS just pretends that they think we want that, so that people who are lower on the wokeness ladder just get upset about corporate “incompetence” rather than the reality of corporate malevolence

Lol the only thing Microsoft thinks about is how it can make it’s applications use even more system resources so it can force people continue with their infinite upgrade cycle. Users “wants” are not a thing.

Capitalism with a brand new turbo charged surveillance state incorporated into all the devices we own.
