Each sensible country nowadays figured that all those Olympics and World Cups are now simply an enormous money sink and dick measuring contest for authoritarian hellholes, hence the protests in all somewhat sensible countries before each one.
And I wouldn’t even go into massive corruption of all these international sports committees, with president of FIFA, Gianni Infantino specifically also being a fucking tone-deaf degenerate.
It’s an excuse to hire your buddies to do work to renovate or build a new stadium with taxpayer money. Privatized profits that are guaranteed for who is picked and these big construction outfits already have close ties to whoever is running the city anyway.
Then you probably end up with free tickets to bring your whole family if you are into it…
Corruption is everywhere transparency and accountability is not. I’ve yet to see a transparent governance model in use.
Cancel the world cup. Education is way more important than costly distractions.
As a Canadian whose city is also hosting World Cup games I 100% agree. cancel it. It’s a cluster fuck. My city was going to have some FIFA festival thing and at first it was “tickets will be free” then city council changed their minds and said “actually no, now you have to pay” THEN they changed their minds and said “free for some, the rest need to pay”.
They’re also now starting to roll out a “clean up the city” crap which actually means remove all encampents, tents, people living on the streets and get them out of sight so the precious world cup tourists don’t see them. house them? put them in shelters? no we have no housing and the shelters are full. we’re just going to “remove them”.
Same as everywhere. Cops will drive them 200+ km away from city. At least it is not a winter outside
At this point a lot of the budget has already been used. Cancelling now you wouldn’t have any of the returns from tourism etc.
Screw the world cup
Just roll in the TV for your country’s games. It’s only 90min.
Not like Mexico are going to go far anyway.
Why? That’s completely unreasonable when considering how far behind the western children are since covid.
