He’s the Kathryn Bigelow of the book world. Every movie she makes is straight-up propaganda.
yeah I really loved The Andromeda Strain. I’ve probably read it 8 times. His background in medicine/er (er, wasn’t he the writer behind the series ER? er I forget) made a book about a bunch of rando scientists hustled to an underground lab with a space bug and a nuclear countdown was pretty fuckin good reading. The terminal man was pretty good. The Great train robbery was good.
But things went downhill; I remember JP being good. Not mind boggling, that took spielberg and ILM, but pretty good. Congo was meh. Rising Sun was… pretty racist. Disclosure, sphere were meh.
And then things rapidly start getting iterative, or lazy… State of Fear and Prey were both awful. I now there’s probably a dozen books I’m forgetting too, because he was prolific for a while, but imho, his earlier stuff was way better.
Is this in reference to State of Fear?
I read this when it came out and even then my first thought was that someone got paid to write this shit.
Not sure. I heard a podcast about one of his books

So you never actually read the book, but you’re spouting an opinion about the book?
I thought I left shit like this on reddit.
If you get your opinions from podcasts, your opinion is invalid. Read the source material.
especially ironic since it’s a post about spreading misinformation for free.
It’s really not that serious.
Which one?
Congo
The book about sentient apes spreads misinformation for Exxon?
I read the book a few decades ago, and I don’t remember that part.
Amy (signing): Bad monkey! Don’t demonstrate the benefits of Solomon’s geothermal powered mine that can be scaled to meet the needs of modern energy infrastructure! Bad! Oil good! Exxon good!
You don’t remember this part?
I loled. Thank you
But they heard a podcast, research achievement unlocked.
