A couple of weeks ago a woman I love moved a long way away … we only met 6 weeks before that, yet it wasn’t a whirlwind romance. She’s terrible at communicating remotely, so we won’t ever have a long term relationship.
My spouse has lifted my spirits a lot, and reminded me that I’ll always carry her in my heart. I’m happy to have had this experience, even if I’m still feeling a sense of loss over it every day as well.
So … who else out there has had that sort of short but sweet romance? What was it like?

Part of why I am polyamorous is that I enjoy experiencing all kinds of connections people can make. I like short-lived relationships and commitment for life, loose and casual ones just as much as deeply connecting ones that end up intertwining my life with someone else’s irreversibly.
I like not having to go through the hoops and motions of ‘standard’ traditional relationships with a clearly defined dating phase, ‘going steady’ and all that. My partner(s) and I just do what we want and what we like, whether that’s a deep friendship with a romantic component, a loose kink adventure or a non-sexual but highly romantic marriage-style commitment. We just do what works for all of us.
Thank you for such a considered reply!
Back when I was in my 30s that was exactly my outlook, and I have many find memories to look back on (and a few disasters, lol).
Now I’m older, I’m realising that I want longer term relationships, and stability.
I wish you and yours the very best for the future :-)
Thank you!
The beautiful thing about polyamory after all is that we can have both :)
Absolutely :-)
