I don’t think the comparison to the soviets is needed at all. I think the incompetence of the Russian army stands by itself. And unless this new offensive somehow turns things around, I think that Russia’s forces will continue to get fucked for the foreseeable future.
The scene might be fictional, but Russia did use human wave assaults in World War II. These were effective in the latter part of the war. Whether it will result in the gains Putin wants in Ukraine remains to be seen.
